A Picture Is Worth…

Each photo in Montour Preserve’s 40th anniversary photo contest captured a moment in time—an experience, an encounter—that was unique to the photographer. They represent only a few such moments and memories of the visitors who spend time at the preserve exploring, discovering, relaxing, recreating, socializing, learning. We congratulate all those who submitted photographs and highlight the winning entries here. In the Adult Nature category Gena Anspach of Turbotville took 1st place with this portrait of a green frog. Ron Metzger of Watsontown captured an eastern bluebird against the browns of a late autumn field for 2nd place. Gena Anspach was in the right place at the right time to photograph the mesmerizing eyes of a fledgling long-eared owl for 3rd place. Barbara Spaventa of Northumberland tied for 3rd place with her close up shot of a ctenuchid moth on a milkweed flower (photo unavailable at present). Look for additional winning photographs in upcoming posts.
