Envirothon competitions invade PPL Preserves!

As final scores are tallied, students hear about recreational opportunities from Dan Corrigan, owner of NEWE, a local recreational outfitter.

A little bit of rain (ok, a LOT in a few instances) didn’t deter the crowd of 60+ students from testing their knowledge at the Pike-Wayne Envirothon competition on Wednesday, May 2 at the PPL Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center.  The most popular part of the day  — other than the ice cream sundaes donated by Yatsonsky Farm! —  was seeing a tranquilized bear, being tagged and handled by PA Game Commission officers.
The competition was tougher than ever this year, with a spread of only 4 points between the top three teams and the need for a tie-breaker question! Congratulations to the “EcoVision” team from Wallenpaupack Area High Schooland the “Wayne Mountain Men” from Western Wayne High School, who will go on to represent Pike and Wayne Counties, respectively, at the state competition at University of Pittsburgh Johnstown later this month. Make us proud, teams! We’re rooting for you!
