EverGreen Elementary Benefits from PPL Empowering Educators Grant

The students at EverGreen Elementary in Lake Ariel, Pa., have something to cheer about.

Alana Roberts, PPL’s community affairs specialist, recently presented a $2,000 check to the Western Wayne School District to fund a digital display and an interactive walking tour showcasing green and energy-saving features of the school.

Touchscreen monitors will be placed throughout the building giving information on energy-efficient lighting, wastewater treatment, heating and cooling, construction and maintenance and storm water retention. The final station will focus on future directions of the building that could include adding additional solar or wind energy capacity.

The project began in December and will be completed this spring.

EverGreen Elementary is one of six schools in northeastern Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley that were given grants totaling $11,200 from PPL’s Empowering Educators grant program. The winning schools were chosen from over 30 applicants by PPL employees, environmental professionals and educators.

“The quality and variety of grant applications we received this year was outstanding,” said Meg Welker, manager of education and public outreach for PPL. “PPL values the ability to bring schools a creative, hands-on focus to energy and environmental topics.”
