Holtwood’s history

Explore vintage postcards and photos to learn about the construction of the McCall’s Ferry dam and hydroelectric plant, which is today known as Holtwood, during this program from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at PPL’s Holtwood Environmental Preserve.

Most of the construction was done from 1900 to 1910. The talk will show the area before construction, various stages of construction and the construction bridge used to get materials across the almost half-mile dam. We will also see the area and houses where the workers lived.
The talk will be presented by Mark Arbogast, a retired PPL land manager who worked at the Holtwood and Brunner Island plants. The program will be held at the Holtwood Environmental Center, 9 New Village Road, Holtwood, PA  17532.
