Get started with geocaching

Come out for an afternoon of hiking and fun during a demonstration of geocaching from 10 to noon Saturday, Oct. 17, at PPL’s Brunner Island Wetlands.

Geocaching is a treasure-hunting game using GPS technology to get people of all ages outside searching for hidden trinkets. To mark the installation of a new multicache (a hunt in several stages), Brunner Island has invited Kevin Stein to introduce people to the hobby. He will cover the basics of GPS technology and provide some hands-on training. Then it’s out into the field for an afternoon of hiking and fun.

If you have your own GPS unit, please bring it. If not, PPL will have a few loaner units available. Wear comfortable hiking clothes and dress for the weather. You may want to consider bringing a small trinket to exchange for one from the cache. Meet at Wood Duck Pavilion at the Brunner Island Wetlands.

And check out www.pplgeocaching.com for more information.
