Riverlands to host 16th annual butterfly count

Observe the beautiful colors, patterns and grace of over 30 different butterfly species including tiger swallowtails and great spangled fritillaries during the Fourth of July Butterfly Count beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at PPL’s Susquehanna Energy Information Center.

The 16th annual butterfly count is part of the ongoing census by the North American Butterfly Association to track butterfly populations and publish the results. Don’t miss this chance to help keep track of the health of this wild population. Participants should be sure to bring water and snacks and wear comfortable shoes and long pants. Binoculars that let you focus on objects less than 6 feet away, a field guide and some knowledge of butterfly identification are useful.

A $3 participation fee will be collected for NABA. Registration is required.

For more information or to register, please contact Alan and Monica Gregory, count coordinators, at 570-788-1425.
