Fishing for Fun in the Riverlands

famfish09 011More than 90 people filled the shores of Lake Took-A-While on Saturday (5/16) for Family Fishing Education Day.

The program — designed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and sponsored by the Columbia County Bassmasters — was intended to teach kids the joy of fishing and bring families together through outdoor activities. The commission provided instruction and free equipment, while the bassmasters provided bait, food and prizes for the kids.

Susquehanna Riverlands staff roped off part of the lake for participants and worked with the bassmasters to stock the lake with donated fish.

Family Fishing Education Day helps ensure the next generation is introduced to fishing as a form of recreation and learns about it in a way that engenders a love of the outdoors and a sense of responsibility for stewardship of that wild part of our world. And judging by the happy looks on the faces of some of the kids it was a pretty successful day.
