A close call

spring-2009-024Here’s a sight I hope to never see again. This eagle ended up in the Susquehanna River near the Holtwood hydroelectric plant and swam about a ½ mile before making it to the shore.

Because we were concerned about its safety, we went to investigate. I’m happy to report we watched it returned to its nest across the river. This eagle and its mate have been at this nesting site since the beginning of February so we should be seeing chicks soon.
