Monarch madness

picture057_smallIt’s been a busy month here at the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center. Our garden has been full of monarch eggs, caterpillars and butterflies. So far this summer, we have tagged 17 butterflies and released them in the garden. Tagging helps to track how far they fly during migration. While the chances of seeing eggs now are very slim, you can still see very large caterpillars chomping on leaves, getting ready to form a chrysalis. All of the butterflies you see now will be heading to Mexico soon for the winter.
